YOUR LITTLE WORKBENCH

Candle cost

Start with the example, then make it your own. Results update as you type.

How this is calculated

Unit cost = total batch cost ÷ saleable candles. Target price = unit cost ÷ (1 − margin ÷ 100).

THE METHOD / 01

Know what goesinto your result.

Unit cost = total batch cost ÷ saleable candles. Target price = unit cost ÷ (1 − margin ÷ 100).

01

A worked example

2520 g wax at 8/kg + 201.6 g oil at 35/kg + 12 × 1.70 containers, wicks and packaging + 6 other costs = 53.616. Per candle: 4.468; at 50% gross margin: 8.936.

02

Keep the assumptions clear

All prices must use the same selected currency. Enter labor, energy and other costs in batch overhead if needed. Taxes, platform fees and shipping are excluded unless you include them yourself. Margin is not markup.
